Dead Space Reveiw (Late)

I know this is a little more than a lot late. But, I was finally able to beat Dead Space. Sometimes an overabundance of games is a bad thing. But, I digress. I beat this a couple of days ago and thought I should review the game. Even though it's an older game.

Here's the the things I liked about the game.

Gameplay- The Gameplay was fun. Shooting of limbs instead of heads (even though I shot my fair of them) was entertaining. Way different than your standard zombie game. I also really like the way that Zero-G played throughout the game. It was fun going back and forth and have the AI doing the same thing. It was refreshing. I like the mini-games, shooting gallery, and zero-g basketball. Some of the more fun mini-games I've played in a long time. The AI was intelligent as well. When going out into space I have to admit I jumped a couple of times since I could only really here my character breathing. The waypoint guide was also a neat addition that I liked as well.

Graphics- The graphics were some of the best during that time. I remember walking out and seeing the vastness of space just taking it all in. It was a very unique experience. Even though you are in a shape mostly throughout the entire game. I did see myself staring at space a couple of times. The monsters (Necromorphs) in the game were really great, I liked the design of most of them. Some of them were really creepy while others looked like a variation of zombies. Which I wasn't too thrilled about.

Story- I have to admit that I watched the Dead Space anime and looked through some of the comics. I believe I got more of the story from both of these mediums than I got from the actual game. Most of the game through 9 or 10 chapters was just trying to leave the ship or help the other crew members from your team. I thought it didn't really get into the story till the very end. Where you learned what the mark was and how it got there. This I hope is changed in the second one. Cause although it was a fun game it didn't have the story that really made me want to play it.

Fun/Replay-ability- This game was fun! One of the more fun games I've played in a while. Even the mini-games were fun. I think that everything altogether made this game a pretty decent game and I look forward to playing the second one. The replay-ability of this game is okay, if you want the platinum trophy. Other than that though I don't think it's a game that will go back to. Not a knock on it but it really doesn't have anything to go and play again.

Presentation- The presentation in this game was some of the best I've seen. That includes the audio, graphics, gameplay mechanics, and all of that. I thought the game had some creepy or spooky moments. The minimal HUD system was a good thing for this game. I enjoyed how the game presented itself. It was a survival horror game, even though you could buy ammo and guns. It still had the presentation of a survival horror game as I jumped in a couple of places. Especially when going outside the ship. Those parts were really well done.

Audio- The audio parts in this game, the music, the feel, all exemplified the horror theme. Turning off all audio when going outside (except for your breathing) was a gameplay mechanic that I adored. The whole atmosphere was great in this game. A lot of that had to do with the audio or lack thereof throughout the entire game.

Gameplay- 10/10
Graphics- 8/10 (only because there were prettier games)
Story- 6/10
Fun/Replay-ability- 6/10
Presentation/Audio- 10/10

Final overall Score- 40/50 A game that deserves a look.
